(FR) Le Bazaar Saint-So est un projet réalisé de 2018 à 2020 par l'agence d'architecture Béal & Blanckaert.
Le Bazaar Saint-So consiste en la réhabilitation d'un hall de la gare de marchandises de Saint-Sauveur, abandonné depuis 2003 suite à sa fermeture. L'architecture de cette halle de 5 000 m², composée de béton et de métal, a conservé son identité industrielle tout en étant conçue pour s'ouvrir sur le contexte urbain environnant. Les hauts plafonds de l'ancienne gare ainsi que les ouvertures Nord-Sud permettent une lecture aisée des lieux, tout en offrant différents espaces ouverts au public. On y retrouve : un espace de coworking, des espaces de travail en libre accès, un bar ainsi qu'une partie de la salle qui peut être adaptée en fonction des événements organisés en son sein par le WAOO (Centre d'Architecture et d'Urbanisme de Lille).
L'esprit des lieux est préservé, en étant réhabilité pour accueillir des usages contemporains tout en utilisant le moins de matériaux possible pour garantir une lecture aisée de l’architecture existante. Le bois est le seul matériau utilisé pour réhabiliter la gare. Il se déploie en permettant la valorisation de son usage : les menuiseries extérieures, les sols, les revêtements, les cloisons ainsi que les mezzanines des bureaux de coworking sont en bois. Le bois est également utilisé pour réaliser des supports reliant l’ancien espace ferroviaire au quai. Il peut servir de support et de décoration comme au bar.
L'utilisation du bois dans ce projet se veut une adaptation du patrimoine existant aux activités du 21ème siècle, ce qui permet au bâtiment une grande appropriation et une identité visuelle très appréciée.
Le projet Bazaar St-So, de par son utilisation du bois pour valoriser l'architecture existante tout en déployant le bois sous ses différentes formes, a remporté le 1er Prix National Bois Construction 2021. Ce prix permet de valoriser le travail des architectes sur ce projet totem, un modèle à suivre dans le travail du bois qui se développe aujourd'hui dans la conception architecturale.

The project is in line with the wishes of the Lille Low Carbon Pact and as a totem of 21st century architecture.
Bazaar Saint-So consists of the rehabilitation of a hall of the Saint-Sauveur freight station, abandoned since 2003 following its closure. The architecture of this 5,000 m² hall, made of concrete and metal, has retained its industrial identity while being designed to open onto the surrounding urban context. The high ceilings of the old station as well as the North-South openings allow easy reading of the premises, while offering different spaces open to the public. It includes: a coworking space, open access work spaces, a bar as well as part of the room which can be adapted depending on the events organized within it by the WAOO (Centre for Architecture and Urban planning of Lille).
The spirit of the place is preserved, by being rehabilitated to accommodate contemporary uses while using as few materials as possible to guarantee easy reading of the existing architecture. Wood is the only material used to rehabilitate the station. It is deployed by allowing the valorization of its use: the exterior joinery, floors, coverings, partitions as well as the mezzanines of the coworking offices are made of wood. Wood is also used to make supports connecting the old railway space to the quay. It can be used as a support and decoration as at the bar.
The use of wood in this project is intended to be an adaptation of the existing heritage to 21st century activities, which allows the building great appropriation and a highly appreciated visual identity.
The Bazaar St-So project, through its use of wood to enhance existing architecture while deploying wood in its different forms, won the 1st National Wood Construction Prize 2021. This prize makes it possible to promote the work of architects on this totem project, a model to follow in woodworking which is developing today in architectural design.
